A SIGN I N SPACE

A SIGN I N SPACE

This story seems to follow a man that has control of the universe similar to the last story I read. He seems to be going back to what he had created before ex the milky way. and is amazed that its still there. he picks up on signs and the story ends with him coming to the conclusion that he really servers no purpose and that space it self my not exist. I thought the idea was kind of cool, that this person has this power but over time does realize that is it really doing anything? It makes you think that is what you are doing anything at all? Do you really hold a purpose in life? Or are you just here based on chance?

GAME WITH OUT END

GAME WITH OUT END

Very interesting story about child like characters that play with the power of atoms. I got the idea that these children were like gods. Who were playing with powers of atoms. They were playing games but on a galactic level. The children play games but start to understand that the games will have no end they would never catch each other. It was a never ending circle short of symbolic to how the universe acts if you ask me. I thought the story was an interesting concept, it should that even on a child like level how things  moved in patterns and sort of acted a story based on myths.

CYBER PUNK by Bruce Sterling.

CYBER PUNK by Bruce Sterling.

Very interesting article of the rise of a genera. I find it very interesting to hear the story of how a genres begin and the mentality and minds of the people with in the group.  It talked about how it had a cult. Also the idea of how other stories would be interpreted in the genera. Such as Frankenstein. I was able to connect much better with the idea, but I got me thinking. How many other stories has this genera fully reaped off, and at its core what is this really as its grown an evolved overtime. From its small cult roots. Is this something new? Or the same thing just with a new skin.  To be far you could put this on most other genera.

ALL AT ONE POINT

ALL AT ONE POINT

this one I had a better feel for. I got the idea that this was a small group of indviduals that were stuck inside some kind of ship or somthing like that. it seems to do do witht the idea of people acting out on there stertipyes and there realtionships with other cultuers, for example the  Z'zus were called out as immigrants, but towards the end of the story I had trouble where ph(i)Nk0s gets killed or bursted into nothing, I didnt know why this was happening and it really had me confused as well.

AT DAYBREAK

AT DAYBREAK

I had a real hard time with this one. I didn't really know what was going on most of the time. At first I thought it was about a kid and his family who were traveling threw space and came across this nebula, but as the story went on, it turned into they were on the nebula as for some reason the family got split up. The story feels very dream like with lots of things happening making it hard for me to understand what was going on at the moment. Even at the end I was lost with the talk of earth and I didn't know if they were looking at earth from the nebula or if they were back on it.

Warbreaker

The plot for me was very deep and complicated I think a little to complicated for the time frame that we needed to read it in. the story of two sisters and that one is to be married to a god so that Idris can have enough time to secure his defenses if the god decides to attack. he instead sends his youngest to Siri. Then its a journey of Vivenna trying to save Siri from her fate.  I mean I love fantasy novels as much as the next guy, but when a book gets this involved I get lost, and I also can't really start to believe it. Theirs nothing tangible in the novel that I can relate to, and maybe thats the appeal for some that really enjoy these novels. Its so out there. It's for these reason mostly, that keeps me away from most fantasy novels. I think stories like the golden compass and Harry Potter have these dementions that slowly bring you into the fantasy, so that the reader can start to get involved into the story and can realty at some level.

The Graveyard

The Grave yard. I kinda had a hard time with his one. The story kept jumping around which was a little difficult, but all in all it was ok.  After the young boy. Nobody enters the grave yard he is then brought up by the dead, which I found to be a very interesting concept to push a story. Its like a story where a young child is bring brought up by there grandparents or aunt or uncle, theres that disconnect because there not really your parents. Of course these is brought to a whole new level that really pushes the concept further.

the golden compass

Lyra is a young girl that is taken on an adventure as she starts to develop into a young women. The story of her uncle that goes on an quest in the northern pole leads the story threw an adventure to try and save him and find out where she really came from. It's a coming of age tale that follows similar stories like the Narnia  books and Harry Potter, where young people are given the opportunity to play a large roles that most children would never have. It's kind of like the tale of a Spider Man or super hero character.  I always like stories like this, because their the factor where you can relate when you were a child growing up, so you have a better understanding what she was going threw and you can relate. Even when you are little it's great to read, because it gives you the story of someone else like you who has become a hero, but I think for young people its something that is an inspiration for them. The added characters like the demons are awesome. They show what a person is feeling and I found it to be a great way to communicate differently how characters were feeling then from other books in this genera. The thing i like most about this genera is they are able to kind pull from the two others scfi and horror. and turn it into there own thing. all in all it was a great read.

The Hobbit

The Hobbit

The story of the young hobbit Bilbo as a burglar, takes him threw middle earth to return treasures  that were taken from the dwarfs by a dragon. the story is a classic adventure and is the back bone tot he lord of the ring trilogy. The story is great I always loved the lord of the rings stories and so reading this was quite enjoyable. the author goes into to much detail for me, but that in turn is what makes these stories so strong in the end.

Tolkien to day is scene as the farther of modern fantasy. He was inspired by many stories such as Beowolf as well.

Review of the Kwaidan

Kwaidan mimi-nashi-hoichi

The Kwaidan book was a grouping of short stories about ghost and the strange things.

a buddhas temple was created to stop the the troubling ghost, but that still didn't stop them fully. the story of the blind man was that he was summoned by the priest.

he was later summoned by a women and he played for her master as well.
the priest found out that he was going out late at night and thought that a demon had bewitched him. The blind man went out again and the the priest told his servant to accompany him.  the servant finds him in the cemetery and thinks that he is truly bewitched.

mimi-nashi-hoichi
the ghost seem to like the blind man and want to keep him for them selfs
the priest helps him and he must go to the ghost again and try and stop the curse that they have put on him. the priest write on the the blind man to save him, but he doesn't write on his ear, they attack him there, but with the help of the good doctor he was able to recover.

In Class. Why are zombie movies so popular?

Why are zombie movies so popular?

I think the big idea of Zombie movies is that you are dealing with a human like character that is not human. It's the association, like gods or demons, but i think the thing that really pushes is that, you the individual that it can happen to you. Anybody can be changed into a zombie. and this idea that the common person can be changed, really hits home with a lot of people. Entertainment has really exploited the zombie movies. everything from games and movies people just can't seem to get enough.

Monster Island post

A group of people are in ny which is infested with zombies, the story seems to move back and fourth which had me confused at first. I had a hard time keeping up, but the subject of zombies was great. The story goes into detail like how the body dies, I think these point are important, because they help give the story backing. Making it real. Also story seems to be more about what's going on then the characters. It's kind of cool. I have never read a novel that goes in this directions. It's all about everything is going around you and that to me makes it that much more real. the story seems to jump around a little bit, but overall I under stand what's going on. I had a clear understand of the city and what had happen. I have never read a zombie novel before and the only relationship I had with the novel was with games like left for dead which to me, plays with the same ideas as monster island. Where you have a small group of people that survived in this wild environment that ones was New York City. I think the idea of somthing like this happening really gets to us, and i think because whenyou hear about a zombie tale, at leat for me, its always the enviroments. its the peacefulness and norm that you feel in a small town or the big city like New York and you introduce and idea such as zombies to the environment, it makes it that much more believable. You can relate to it on a much closer level.
