RUSHMORE

MR. BLUME

You guys have it real easy. I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here. Because, the fact is, whether you deserve it or not: you go to one of the best schools in the country.
Max's eyes light's up. MR. BLUME Rushmore. You lucked out. Max leans forward to the railing and begins to listen intently.
MR. BLUME Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich, and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs. And take them down. Some of the students and faculty begin to look at each other with puzzled expressions. Max is nodding and taking notes on the flypage of a hymnal. INSERT HYMNAL:
Rushmore -- best school in country. rich kids -- bad? MR. BLUME Just remember: they can buy anything. But they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget that. Thank you.
Mr. Blume leaves the podium. Max leaps to his feet and leads the applause. The organ starts and everyone stands up. EXT. QUADRANGLE DAY Mr. Blume and the headmaster, DR. GUGGENHEIM, come out of the chapel among the throng of students.
Dr. Guggenheim wears a wool coat and smokes a pipe. He is very dashing with silver hair and a warmly patronizing manner. He walks with his hands clasped behind his back. Two Jack Russell terriers follow quickly at his heels.
DR. GUGGENHEIN
Are you free for graduation, Herman? Maybe you could give us an encore. (whistles to the dogs) Nicholas! Copernicus! MR. BLUME (lighting a cigarette)
I don't give a shit. I paid for the whole damn natatorium. The least these little pricks can do is hear me out. MAX Mr. Blume.
Max has appeared beside them. Dirk tags along behind him. MAX My name's Max Fischer. I just wanted to tell you, I strongly agree with your views concerning Rushmore.
MR. BLUME You don't say. Tell me something. How long have you gone here? MAX Ten years. MR. BLUME
Then you've been living in a dreamworld for ten years. MAX Iknowit, sir. Max smiles broadly. They each notice that their haircuts are identical, neatly parted on the side.
MAX Your speech was excellent. Except I disagree with your ideas about rich kids. Because. After all, we don't choose who our fathers are. But that's really my only criticism.
MR. BLUME (hesitates) Thank you.

NOTES
Mr Blume seems to be one the main characters in the story as well as max. He seems to be a friend to max.

Max seems to be a nice young man just trying to make his way threw the world. He is obviously the main character

Ms.Cross is a teacher that Max falls in love with. I think the relationship grows because she sees a part of her old husband in Max and in turn unintentionally leads Max in loving her. When she starts seeing that max becomes Obsessive she backs off and goes to his friend Mr. Blume for help.

Max is not apart of this culture, so he can relates to Mr. Blume. He seems him as a father figure, later there relationship gets destroyed over a women and max takes revenge on Mr. Blume, the revenge then ends with either side happy, and near the end the relationship it brought back after neither him nor Mr Blume can have the heart of Ms.Cross

This story is a coming on age. Of a young boy who is finding himself in the world, he a smart  kid, but he seems a little reckless for his own good. This both drives the character to success and is his weakness as well. He becomes Obsessive and brings much drama to the story.

Lolita

A very interesting novel of a young girl who's life is ultimately changed when her mother is killed in a car crash. I found the novel to be pretty intense for what happens to Lolita is very sad and dark.

Humbert the narrator has a sick love for the girl, that fills him and he becomes obsessive with the girl and controlling her. I found it interesting that he did love Lolita, it wasn't just about the sex with her. Though this story could be scene as something very distasteful and disgusting, this story is really about a man who falls in love with an idea, not so much about a girl. Its the ideas of Loltia the he loves. Humbert would go into great detail as how Loltia made him feel just her being around him.

"My heart expanded with such force that it almost blotted me out. I hitched up the pants of my pajamas, flung the door open: and simultaneously Lolita arrived, in her Sunday frock, stamping, panting, and then she was in my arms, her innocent mouth melting under the ferocious pressure of dark male jaws, my palpitating darling! The next instant I heart her—alive, unraped—clatter downstairs. The motion of fate was resumed. The blond leg was pulled in, the car door was slammed—was re-slammed—and driver Haze at the violent wheel, rubber-red lips writhing in angry, inaudible speech, swung my darling away, while unnoticed by them or Louise, old Miss Opposite, an invalid, feebly but rhythmically waved from her vined verandah.”

Its interesting, because like other erotic novels, I would think that that it would talk more about the bond on the characters together, like equals. My beliefs is that most of this is in Humberts head and that he is really the only one that is maturity enough to really understand what’s going on in the relationship. Lolita is far to young and I think with out her added commentary it makes the story that more creepy.

Pulp

I read first year of batman for my pulp novel. It was fun had a lot of themes that we see in a lot of pulp novels. Interesting I found that the universe of where a lot of Pulp stories take place are connected to are reality. and that this city is a dark and evil city, it sets the mood and allows to attach to something we know, like a city. but scene it does not exist it lives open the possibility for anything happen. The story it self is field with holes and is very loose. First year of Batman was very action based and was all about getting you threw the story as fast as possible, it tried to use plot elements, to build it up, but at the end its just another action story thats mostly only about the acton. it's funny analyzing it, how that really all it is and nothing more then just that. Just the same formula used multiple times, but for some reason were ok with it, we think that things will change. that this next gamble will lead Batman so where else in his journey.  The character becomes some what super human and  This formula can be scene in other forums of pulp as well, like James Bond. Really its the same story, just on a lager scale.
